  • 1.0 One star for contractors posted on January 12, 2009

I worked with the development team a while ago and I found the art directors there to be some of the most difficult idiots I've ever had to endure. The management team there was friendly but clueless, as has been stated here before. They are really not in any business but the money business, and getting onto the team does not seem to be worth the effort. I did not enjoy my time there at all.

  • 4.0 I Love My Job Here posted on April 18, 2007

The people here are all great! And the location is good. But it is the work that makes this place very awesome. My bosses are understanding, helpful, and cooperative. I work with my boss to make a schedule that is doable, and i work just a little more than forty hours a week and stay on track with it. I have a lot of creative freedom, and a lot of choice, which is so important to me. I love working at a company that makes games! I love hearing from happy more...

While I enjoy working at BFG, there are plenty of politics here. I would say that management does not have a great deal of experience, at many of the technical levels. Lack of people here, is another issue. I have many co-workers who are overworked, because we have such a hard time finding people, but management doesn't want to hear this as being problem, and wants the schedules they laid forth, but won't take our estimates and/or feeback into account. more...

  • 4.0 good environment posted on March 03, 2007

The company has bit of a startup feel to it with a thin level of management over the development teams. It's common for company priorities to shift rapidly so it's certainly not for everyone if you are expecting the boring stability of a bank. That said, the company remains profitable and growing so it's more stable than a true startup with no VC axe hanging over everyone's necks.

There is much here about the layoffs in October so I'll briefly comment. It more...

  • 2.0 OK, but a little weird posted on March 01, 2007

BFG does have a lot of talent, and that certianly offsets the other issues. The main issue is management, although accessible, does not seem to understand the development team. The company is heavily development oriented, so this apsect of the company is a little comfusing.

  • 3.0 Flawed but fun posted on March 01, 2007

Before the October layoffs I would have given this 4 stars and a rave. Since then, the vibe has definitely become more business and less fun, and I think morale is still not where it once was... everyone is still 'hearing footsteps' a bit.

That said, Big Fish is still the best place I've worked in 10 years of high-tech. Tons of smart, interesting people; fun, challenging work; a great location and a great office.

I think management has made some mistakes in more...

  • 4.0 Hands down the best company for which I've worked posted by ismism on March 01, 2007

This is a company with not only a strong business plan and solid practices but with heart. Management is very engaged and very approachable and there is a high priority given to making work enjoyable, even fun! We give back to the community and provide great benefits to employees.

  • 4.0 Best company I've worked for. posted on March 01, 2007

I've worked at numerous companies around the Puget Sound area. BFG is hands down the best place to work yet. Management actually understands the business and co-workers are fun and very smart people. Great casual environment to work in.

  • 4.0 Fun workplace, good people, casual environment posted by FigNewton on January 04, 2007

You'll probably note that all of the prior negative reviews are from October 12th, which was the culmination of an unfortunate series of layoffs. I suspect a portion of the anger people felt upon being laid off was because they lost jobs they really liked.

This is an exceptionally nice work environment. Engineering gets to run much of its own show, most of management recognizes the futility of excessive meetings, and you can wear shorts, walk around in more...

  • 1.0 Good employees, amateur management posted by Python on October 12, 2006

A good group of workers with a lot of passion for their jobs. Unfortunately virtually all management level employees including the CEO and the president are "doing it all for the first time". Nearly everyone from the VP level up is new to that level of responsibility, so there are few to no "old hands" to steady them when they make rash or just idiotic decisions. Employee concerns are generally viewed as traitorous or at the very least irrelevant. Managers who more...

  • 1.0 Good to bad in 4 days flat posted by coderater2927 on October 12, 2006

Just when, after several reorganizations, the company finally seemed stabilizing, they announced a significant round of layoffs out of thin air, I suppose to shake things up a bit. This is an old corporate tactic some sales organizations have used to keep everyone so scared to lose their job. The theory was that employees will work harder if they are hungry and fear for their jobs. I can't say for sure if this was the reason behind the layoffs, but it did scare more...

  • 1.0 Great people, bad management posted by monty on October 12, 2006

Recent, sudden cuts of key people with excellent-to-outstanding work histories leave me wondering if this is a stable company. The devs and other employees who remain there are, for the most part, kind, considerate people with a passion for what they do. The management is out of control, paranoid, and unprofessional.

  • 3.0 smart people who are human posted on October 12, 2006

Not perfect, but a nice company run by mostly nice people. Poor communication, but excellent vision and excellent financial stats. No strong commuter incentives, expensive (but good) health coverage. Certainly there are some growing pains.
