I interned at EDS in Plano, TX one summer many years ago. The thing I remember most is the tight security and the mandatory dress code (suit, matching coat and trousers) and the isolated suburban blight in which it resides, Plano, TX. I like to call it a "sweat shop" because you will sweat wearing a suit during the Texas summer.

They have this room in a bunker that looks just like NORAD in WarGames. No kidding, it shows all their data centers on more...

    The good:

They seem to hire anyone with a bachelor's degree and a minimal csci background. This is great for someone like myself who didn't go the intern route. You can "intern" with EDS and move on, if it's right to do so.

EDS is only interested in keeping it's "top performers" (the top 25% rated by management). The rest of the people (the lower 75%) have no reason to expect any salary increase ever - unless they can get into the top more...

I suppose I have to give EDS props for one thing: they gave me a chance fresh out of college. Of course, the company likes it that way, because at that point in your life you're young and stupid and don't know what it's like to work for a good employer.

As a software shop, you can expect the conditions to run the gamut at EDS. Some will be lucky and somehow end up in the few projects in the company that actually use newer technology and possibly for a more...
