1.0 not the worst, but vying for it posted on April 18, 2007

Greed is the only word I can use to describe the owners here. They chronically overcharge, understaff, and mismanage clients, then spin the problems as the work of a few bad apples. The turnover is horrific, and there are few who've been around long enough to know any client from initiation to launch.
All the clients know that the CEO is full of it, but he's such a good salesman you find yourself admiring his ability to bullshit his way out of things. After a while, though, you start to wonder what kind of parents could not manage to teach their children basic concepts of right and wrong.
As the title says, they're not the worst out there, but they certainly are among the most inept and dishonest I've ever encountered. Makes for a great combination when they're selling HCM software, and they can't manage to implement any of the concepts internally. Stay far away

Ethics is an interesting part of that company. When I was there, one of the execs was a guy named Thomas Campbell. He had previously spent time in prison for fraud. That must have been a stellar bit on his CV. You can read about what he did in the business week article http://www.businessweek.com/1996/38/b3493123.htm

Here is my favorite part of the article "Aggressive accounting started to veer into chicanery. The turning point may have come in the final hours of Dec. 31, 1992. With the company still short of its quarterly targets, Campbell was pressuring Atlanta salesman James Hasbrouck to seal two orders from Georgia hospitals. Although Hasbrouck testified he told Campbell the customers weren't ready to sign, Campbell kept pushing, and the salesman eventually forged both customers' names on sales papers and faxed them to Campbell.

Soon after, Murray testified, Campbell came charging into her office with the $221,000 in ersatz orders. Campbell confided to her about the forgeries, saying Hasbrouck needed more time to ``clean up the paperwork.'' Murray informed Bradstreet, she testified, and he told her not to worry--although Bradstreet countered in court that he didn't know about the forgeries. Murray posted the transactions."

I remember that guy too. The VP of finance, right? He seemed like a jerk, but I had no idea about his criminal past. When were you at Softscape? I worked there in '04.

    From www.corr.state.mn.us/publications/legislativereports/documents/InterstateCouncilReport2007.pdf

Each committee gave the commission a report on their activities for the year. The Technology Committee reported that Softscape, the vendor working on the National database, has not met their deadlines nor delivered the product as promised. Several tests were conducted on NACIS across the nation. Minnesota took part in these tests. The concept looked promising; however, the system had some serious flaws. ICAOS andSoftscape have entered into binding arbitration in order to cancel the existing contract.

It appears that Softscape sued a former employee and lost. The court ordered Softscape to pay $24,436.50 as reasonable attorneys' fees and costs to the former employee and now they are now appealing the judgment.

    From the web page:

ORDER: "Before me is the plaintiff's appeal from an order of the Superior Court, entered on December 21, 2006, that awarded $24,436.50 as reasonable attorneys' fees and costs to the defendant, pursuant to G. L. c. 231, s.6F...the order awarding attorney's fees is affirmed."
