Salary/Benefits:
I have many friends that work at many different consulting companies or as in-house developers. Salary wise, our compensation is very competitive. We have all the usual benefits in terms of vacation, personal time off, health care etc. Hardware wise, we get new computers frequently and they are always excellent machines with tons of RAM. Our cell phones are covered by the company, as is gym membership.
Training:
Each person is allocated a training budget and you can use it on just about anything you are interested in. We have a generous book allowance and everyone gets a Safari account. We are encouraged to speak at community events and all costs associated with speaking are covered and the company gives you time to prepare and give your presentations
We have internal mailing lists which are monitored regularly by our whole consulting team. Many of us are MVPS (or former MVPS) and actively engaged in the community, so most questions you can't figure out on your own are answered quickly
General Environment:
We don't spend much time in the office b/c we're usually at client sites. Our office manager stops by regularly to make sure the engagement is going well. Our account executives are also frequently in contact with us so if any issues arrive, it's easy to get them resolved quickly. We also have top management (including the owners) stop by on a regular basis and they do their best to meet up with everyone for lunch or dinner. We have a very open policy with management as well, and they are very proactive in making sure all of your concerns are addressed and that you are happy. We have offices all over the country and a consulting force of over 150 people yet the owners and management makes a point of knowing all of us personally.
So far in my career, I've moved up by moving around. I've certainly had jobs I liked a lot before and worked for many good companies, but by far, Magenic is my favorite and I can't imagine working anywhere else.
